The GHMS covers a broad geography, centered on Hartford and East Hartford, and radiating out into surrounding towns and cities. Mobility within the core cities is often challenged by the high demand for travel to and from employment centers. This demand is mixed with local trips that residents make as part of their everyday lives. And longer-distance travelers, including truckers, must compete for limited capacity on our roads and highways.

The resulting congestion affects the health of our economy, diminished safety, an increased delay for motorists, and reduced air quality for everyone. Improvements to passenger rail and bus transit have provided some relief for travelers who have those options available to them. And while walking and cycling remain viable ways to make shorter trips, there remain numerous gaps in the infrastructure that needs to be improved to have a safe and well-connected network.

For these reasons, the GHMS Study Team wants to understand your priorities for mobility in the region.
